Not Quite Done

Here is a shot of the kitchen as it is right now.  It is not complete yet.  The stove hood doesn't have the front part on yet, because we are still doing wall repair.  We do not have the window casing yet, because it is getting made.  We do not have molding around the soffit yet, that is in process.  I also have some area rugs that I am waiting for.  The stainless steel island hood was made from a company called Metal Works here in Burlington, Vermont the same place that is making the stainless steel casing around the window.  We just took some measurements of the island we had, and then had them make a shoe box cover for us.  I will post more pics when all is done.  It is so fabulous.

Here is a before shot.

Here is another shot with the glass shelves.  The kitchen is not situated yet, but I wanted to show you some progress.

This is the before, obviously.

This is a shot of the dining room.  I don't think I have showed the Ikea clear chairs I bought in place of the ones I had originally ordered.  These are much more comfy, and can handle the weight of an average man.
I just also have to say, I know my pictures are pretty sucky.  I take them with my iPhone.  I don't know how other bloggers get their pictures to look so perfect, but a new camera is in my radar.  This kitchen transformation cost roughly $3500, $800 of this went towards a new dishwasher.  I will be giving more of a break down of what we did in the kitchen later, with video.  Chow!!

Island Light

This is a picture of the island light in place, but not fully to the ceiling yet.  This is a big weekend for us.  The kitchen should be mostly complete by Sunday! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!  The window molding will not be done this weekend.  I really wanted to have stainless steel molding around the window, and I had the idea of using a picture frame, but that didnt' work.  So we went to a local metal store here and am having them make it.  It will be smoking hot.  Well I need to get back to work.

We didn't go with a traditional island light because we really wanted the space to feel more open, and needed some bright lighting.  I love it!!

Bejeweled Backsplash, Paint, and Light

We are still in the process of our fabulous kitchen makeover.  I haven't posted in a little while due to being a Mom of three, and working on the kitchen.  Here are some pics of the process.

This is a picture of the new soffit. It is all sheet rocked and taped.  What a freaking mess.  I knew it would be, but you are never prepared for the dust storm.

I think Tom and I stood back and looked at the new tile and imagined what they would like for a good few hours.

The walls and soffit got painted in a semi gloss "chefs white" paint, how appropriate.  We, by that I mean Tom installed our spot lights.  We will be putting up glass shelves, so we want a lot of light shining on them.  Hmmm it's going to be so pretty.

BOOM! Tom installed the first row of tile.  It was so exciting.

Then the back splash for the stove hood was installed.  It is so sparkly like a piece of fine jewelery.  When I say it looks good, I mean it looks so AWESOME!  We have done much more since then, but I don't want to give it all up right now.

So Cool

I woke up this morning to a tweet from my favorite designer David Bromstad.  He said he went to Lisa Vanderpumps lounge SUR and met her.  I tweeted how lucky he was, and asked how the decor was at SUR. He tweeted back that it was awesome, and super sexy like her.  My first celebrity tweet back, from my favorite HGTV decorator.  SO COOL.

Window

Here is a mini before and after of our new window in the kitchen.  The window looks out into our four season porch, that we only use three seasons.  We don't use it in the winter because it is not that well insulated, and it's literally like throwing money out the window.  The old window was an outdoor window and not a pretty picture window like we put in.  This is the first picture you all have seen of the kitchen.

Range Hood

The kitchen is moving along nicely.  I am just sharing bits and pieces so I can have a major reveal to show.  I have a picture of the range hood we ordered.  This is it.
It isn't the hood we had originally ordered.  Tom really wanted a high CFM rating on the hood.  We found one that was 1000 CFM which was perfect, but when it arrived it had a huge dent in the front, and the touch screen was detached from the face.  It seemed like it was super glued on there.... bahhh bye.  It is important when you order stuff on line to check return policy information.  This stupid company is trying to make us pay to ship it back.  Yeah seriously get bent.  This hood looked like it was from the hood.  I hope this new hood comes in tack, it has 500 CFM.  So anyway...... here is the hood.
